Born in Madrid, Javier studied Business Administration at the European Business School and did a Masters in International Marketing Strategy at Northwestern University in Chicago. In 1995, he founded Fun & Basics, specialising in contemporary handbags and accessories.
His achievements in the industry were recognised in 2005 with the Best Young Entrepreneur of Madrid award. After years in the industry, he became concerned about the amount of waste generated by the fashion industry.
He began his mission to create a totally new concept that would combine his design sensibility and knowledge of the fashion industry with the latest innovation in recycled materials. In 2013 he founded ECOALF, named after his sons Alfredo and Alvaro.
Under his leadership, the company has grown positively and now produces an extensive sustainable collection of outerwear, swimwear, casual wear, yoga, footwear and accessories. Javier has expanded ECOALF’s distribution strategically, positioning himself in some of the world’s most prestigious shops (with over 1,500 outlets).
Javier was awarded by the Schwab Foundation with the 2020 Social Innovator of the Year award for revolutionising the fashion industry and leading the change towards a sustainable future.
In July 2022, Ecoalf was recognised by B Corp as one of the best in the world (Best for the World), positioning the brand in the top 5% of the 5,000 B Corp companies globally in the environment category.
For two consecutive years (in 2022 and 2023) Ecoalf has been recognised as the most environmentally responsible company in the Merco Responsabilidad ESG ranking for Spain.
In 2023 Ecoalf Sports was launched: a sustainable sportswear line with garments made from recycled nylon to limit the release of microplastics. And that same year, Ecoalf also entered the cosmetics sector with Ecoalf Wellness, a line with recyclable and refillable products without plastic, without water and achieving circularity.
